Just in case the PowToon presentation may appear to be glitchy, I have also took a screenshot of each of the slides so you may read them clearly.

Evaluation Question 5

Here is a video of Nathan who agreed to give me some feedback on what he thought about the High School Drama title sequence rough edit 2. Which was quite helpful in terms of knowing what was good and what needed to be worked on.
Here is some feedback I received from Jack, who didn't receive any information on the film content whatsoever thus from the actual footage to the soundtrack he gave very critical comments on the rough edit 2.

Final Edit - Title Sequence Finished

This picture is proof that my group 27 has finished with our Final Edit to our title sequence.

Reaction to the final day (deadline)

Reaction to the final day (deadline)

The deadline day of our media film was a very hectic day. We finished filming our sequences on the 5th of March. We needed to finish the shots of the "New kid" being pushed over by the bully, and being lifted up by the "Drama queen". Also, we had to get shots of the "Loner" sitting on the floor listening to music reclining against the wall from different angles with varying shots. such as extreme-close ups with a combination of high and low angles. We were also required to shoot the clips of the "Bully" grabbing a poster promoting a prom and slowly walking towards it. By the time we managed to re-group on the last day of the film making, we needed to fix several issues from the film. The first job we needed to do was to create the titles for the specific roles of the production such as Casting, Director, music designer etc. It took around 3 minutes to design each title. Once created, we had to export them, airdrop them and then place them into final cut pro. One of the negative outcomes of the titles was that they appeared very faint and difficult to see when they were exported into the project. We only discovered this problem in the remaining minutes of the deadline however. Another job we needed to complete was altering the ending of the sequence, because the shots of the "New kid" being lifted did't match the points that he enters the classroom. Miraj then went to complete the soundtrack and the narration within the last two hours of the deadline, so there was lots of activity and business to be taken care of, but we managed to complete these tasks and make the improvements by 4 o'clock. We did put a lot of time and effort into the making of the film, and the deadline day was the busiest and most tiresome day. We were the last group to finish the project, but I personally feel as though we rectified the mistakes we made and fixed the majority of problems such as the ending and some of the shots.

(This was the feedback we received from Mary and the improvements we needed to make).

Title Sequence Order

Throughout the creation of our group's title sequence we had to think carefully about the order of the way the titles appeared which was done by watching various film title sequences. However, there was a lot more that was needed which was this long list of titles which is fairly common in the mainstream type films as they would have everyone and a large crew and cast. This order of titles was used a blueprint for our group's title sequence but not all the titles were included as the type of film we created. It was a high school drama but it didn't have a large cast or crew just the essentials needed for the creation of a film.

Rough Edit 2 Feedback - For Final Edit

During our group's second rough edit, our teacher was being very blunt and brutal about what worked and what didn't work, in order to get the best marks that our group could recieve. Thus most of the footage needed to be redone as it was attrosious, and there was not much variety in the terms of the shot types which made it look mediocre at best.

BFI - Future Film Festival Vlog

During towards the end of February, from 20th to 22nd I spent my time, at the British Film Institute being involved with one of their festivals the Future Film Festival. This was a very enjoyable time as I learned more about and different aspects of film. Each day was centred around a specific aspect of film which included the following - animation, fiction and documentary. I learned and watch various types of films and got to ask experts in field several different questions. I took notes from each of the activities and talks that happened each day which I used to help in my coursework for a high school drama title sequence in terms of the way the characters should be presented and act. However, not all of this could have been applied to my group's title sequence as it is only a small piece of a film which needed to be thought out in a careful way which meant that most of the stuff I learned could not be used on this particular project.

Narrative Voice Vlog

I recorded two vlogs of me doing the narrative voice in the studio, to the track several times at different points in soundtrack.

Handbrake

Me and my group would use the program, Handbrake to convert our videos which may be too big a size to be uploaded onto the blog to size that Blogger can take.

Using this we can put it on the blog however, the disadvantage of using Handbrake is that is lowers the quality of the video which may prevent it from being seen that clearly. Although it allows videos to be posted a lot more easier on the blog, by converting a .mov file into a MPEG (m4v) file.

However, there may be cases when a file is far too big to convert into MPEG.

Film that have influenced our film

Film that have influenced our film

One of the films which have influenced our decision to make a teen drama was "The Breakfast Club". Not just due to it being set during school life, but the influences were mostly the characters. They all epitomise the type of stereotypical students that high/secondary schools have in America and Britain. These stereotypical characters in "The Breakfast Club" are seen in our film.

Stereotypes

  • Claire Standish (Molly Ringwald) is the princess, the Prom Queen, Miss Popularity.
  • Brian Johnson (Anthony Michael Hall) is the brain, the geek, the "neo-maxie zoom deebie."
  • Andrew Clark (Emilio Estevez) is the athlete, the jock, "Sporto."
  • John Bender (Judd Nelson) is the criminal, the rebel, the punk.
  • Allison Reynolds (Ally Sheedy) is the basket case, the loner, the weirdo.
The strict confines of high school status groups separate the characters. Claire and Andrew might know each other, they might even end up at the same big parents-are-out-of-town party, but they do not "hang out." None of the others would even speak to one another under normal circumstances. But Saturday detention is like a parallel universe-it creates a separate sphere where these divisions can eventually be set aside. In the "other world" their punishment creates, the members of the Breakfast Club are allowed to move beyond these social norms and distinctions. They interact with each other, learning the details of the lives beneath the stereotypes, and find common ground.

Ferris Bueller's Day off

The soundtrack used within the opening sequence in "Ferris Bueller's Day off" is relatively similar to our's. It has the same upbeat tempo, all be it used in a contrasting settings, with our film set in school, while the opening of "Ferris Bueller's Day off" is set in Ferris's house.

Instantshots - Final Cut Pro

Here is a shot of me and my group editing some footage by going over the very beginning of the title sequence which starts off with an establishing shot which seems to look well in terms of lightning.

This is another shot in final cut pro which shows the nerd playing chess and a close up of him holding a chess piece which was quite difficult as me and my group was trying to see if the footage had to be shortened or needed some way to extend it.

This is an instantshot which shows final cut pro editing being done of finding the right type of render for the idents that were imported into final cut pro as each when imported buffered quite a lot which caused a bit of a problem in terms of making the film look very low quality. Thus going through several renders did do something but took time to find the right one.

Shots of the Loner - Liked/Disliked

This is a shot of the loner listening to music, which does look like a good shot but is a clear example of me breaking the 180 degree rule as me and my group will be filming from one direction not two unless that is what me and my group is going for thus it would be deliberate.

I like this shot as it shoes the headphones very clearly which is the moment the song for the loner starts which is good to do. Although it is covered. this close up is very useful to add emphasis on the music which the loner would be listening to adding to his character.

High School Drama - Rough Edit 2

Working on Motion for production and distribution idents.

Working on Motion

This particular template was a rough idea of what are final idents can look like. It was an alternative, incase we decided to download a title from youtube. I placed the production and the name of the film on the titles. This can be seen as a more simpler alternative, but from a personal perspective on one I found, I like the combined effects applied from, to make it look like a clever design. I downloaded this particular template from Youtube, and placed the production titles "Group 27, while also applying a fast paced soundtrack over the top. The fonts used is called "Comic sands TM". It's a relatively basic effect used with a type of turquoise colour.

This particular template was for the distribution ident. It can be seen as metaphorical because the branches are spreading and distributing, in the same way we are attempting to distribute our film and share it.

This particular template was for the production ident. Using the "Hatcheck" font, and applying a red colour, It flows along with the red vines, but also adding a retro feel.

Motion

Motion templates

For our film template, we are considering using two types of template. One of them is creating our template on the editing software "Motion", and secondly using a downloadable template from the internet. In the opening scene credit, one of the template we are using is themed on "Skyline"with the title of the film being labeled "Typical High School".

In terms of fonts, we are contemplating using several. One example, is the font called "El Valiente". We could use this because of it's funky and retro design, also applying a red coloured font to match the flowing red pattern swerving through the buildings in the template. Another font which could possibly applied can be the "Dripping Marker" font. They both seem conventional for a high school based film, especially the dripping marker because graffitiing can be seen as a hobby from high school students.

As an alternative, We might decide to download a title from youtube, while placing the production and the name of the film on the titles. This can be seen as a more simpler alternative, but from a personal perspective on one I found, I like the combined effects applied from, to make it look like a clever design. (This is one of the titles we could use.)

Film Shots

This is a shot of me walking into college, long shot.

This picture shows Jake filming the 'new kid' from a different place for a close up of me entering through the automatic doors.

This is a picture of the 'new kid' coming in through the doors, a shot which can be used as a matchcut.

Jake is still on the camera, filming just the 'new kid' approach the camera.

This is a picture of the college sign as that was one shot was going to be taken to give a sense of where we are.

This is a shot of Suad and Jake trying to get a nice clear shot

This is a picture of Jake and Suad adjusting the camera so it gets the sign through using the toggle button, reviewing footage and Suad holding onto the tripod as it was unstable and needed to still in order to record.

This is a picture of the camera shooting the 'New Kid' from behind to get part of his face and a bit of sign to which he is looking at.

This is a picture, of Jake getting a close up of the 'New Kid' from the side to show more clearly he is looking at something.

This is a picture of the 'New Kid' entering the college as the weather of this day was different to how it was for shots that were taken another day. Thus the shot was taken again.
